Sloping curved ice pathway
Engineered and installation of rink floor and sloping curved ice pathway for the movie set, "Mystery Alaska", a Walt Disney Production. Pace received a call on a Friday, indicating the unexpected warm weather had melted the natural ice surfaces on the movie set in Canmore, Alberta, bringing shooting to a halt. Our personnel were on site Monday, and had a system in place allowing shooting to start again within 10 days, We utilized a large portable ammonia system (280 Tons) built by Pace for this type of mobile, temporary application. Pace was also involved with building special effects props for the "Batman - Mr. Freeze" movie.
Designed and installed a temporary 60' x 160' ice surface on the roof of two story connecting portion of New York World Trade Centre.
Pace was instrumental in the development of frozen conductor pipes to prevent "thaw back" under drilling rigs in the Delta portion of the Arctic exploration program. These refrigerated conductors have become standard equipment for production wells in the Arctic.
Developed freezing points to stabilize "Quick Sand" conditions to allow deep sewer constructionin municipalities with problem soil conditions.
Developed a frozen pad to enable construction of an overpass for a new freeway system, and support pads for large cranes.
Designed and built the largest portable ice rink refrigeration system in the world. It is contained in a 52' highway trailer with a capacity of 280 Tons (at 76F WB & 10F SST). This unit is owned and operated by Los Tres Papagayos of Los Angeles and will be used for the time by the NHL for the first two regular season games in 2000 in Tokyo, Japan on a 90' x 200' temporary ice sheet.
Engineered and installed a complete artificial ice system where 3 phase electric power was not available. Natural gas engine was used to drive the compressor and pumps from a common shaft. This allowed a small northern community to have an ice rink, which otherwise would not have been able to.
